Toy Design and Woodworking (2023)
For my nephew's first birthday, I designed and fabricated a geared hummingbird toy to gift to him. After conceptualizing the layout, I sketched each piece, solved the geometry for the gears, and made a cardboard prototype. Then, I formed the gears, wings, and body using a benchtop band saw and a belt sander, until finally staining and assembling the full mechanism.
As seen in the short video to the left, the hummingbird spins its wings while rolling on the ground. My nephew enjoyed his present!
